A couple of Sabbaths ago when we were at Elm Haven we were sitting in Sabbath school talking about materialism. Somebody brought up the situation where Esau traded his birthright for lentils and it got my mind to turning. Why did Esau trade his birthright for lentils? Wasn’t his birthright way more important than a bowl of food? In paraphrasing the Bible it says that Esau was pretty sure he was starving and if he didn’t get that bowl of stew he was going to die anyways so why not sell his birthright if he was going to be dead (you can read about this in Genesis 25 starting in verse 29). I think the problem with Esau is that his mind was focused on the temporal world and not the heavenly. All he could think about was his stomach and how he needed food now!
Did you know that we have a birthright? God has chosen us to be adopted into his family. We are sons and daughters of God if we accept His invitation. He says in Ephesians 1:5, “God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ. This is what He wanted to do, and it gave Him great pleasure.”
I know that I can be a lot like Esau. I’m so focused on this world and my present situations that I forget everything that God has already accomplished on my behalf. I’m in many ways selling my birthright. Matthew 6:19 says, “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will be also.” I can easily forget this verse from day to day. Where is my heart and my desires? Where is yours? What are we selling our birthright for? Are you focused on this present world or our heavenly home?
This world will never give us true peace but, “You, our God, will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is centered on You and who puts his trust in You.” Isaiah 26:3

Second, each person will discover their unique Biblical Identity. And third, a person will discover and develop their Personal Calling Statement.
WHERE: This event will be held at the ACS Gym, 612 23rd Ave, Greeley.
WHEN: February 16, 17, 2018. Empowered begins Friday evening at 6:30 pm. Sabbath morning, we begin at 9:00 AM. There will be a fellowship meal provided for attendees at noon. The last session will begin after the fellowship meal.
WHO: Participants will include members and guests of the Greeley and Elm Haven Churches. Pastors Jason Logan and Al Williams will be the facilitators. The sessions are designed in a format of adult learning style, with participants working with their table coach to develop the three parts of the seminar. You're welcome to hand it to us or email it to us.
"And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these."
We look forward to seeing you at Wednesday Bible study, Thursday Prayer Meeting (Greeley SDA Church), and on Sabbath. Please consider joining us, even if you're not a member.
